Roy Henley, a WKCTC non-traditional student, has been selected as student of the month for April. Roy is a non-traditional student who worked at the Goodyear Tire Plant for 13 years prior to its closing. He then chose to take this life event as an opportunity to return to school and pursue a lifelong dream of being a teacher. His "bump in the road" of losing a good job was the turning point to allow him to pursue his dream; and he has done a superb job in doing that!
Roy has 4.0 GPA which he works hard to maintain. He is a leader on campus, as well as a member of the All-KCTCS Academic, which provides him the opportunity to be a student speaker at this year's graduation. Roy is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, TRIO Student Support Services, and the New Beginnings Adult Support Group. In addition, he serves in the community as a Cub Scout leader, church youth leader, football coach, a member of two Mayfield city boards , and is a thespian performer at the Mayfield's Purchase Players.
Roy Henley represents and inspires the non-traditional students on our campus to continue in their pursuit of higher education. Roy does all this, but will tell you his first priority is his family— five children, and supportive wife, Laura, who is a student herself in the RN Program here at WKCTC. Congratulations Roy!!
