West Kentucky Community and Technical College will offer two summer basketball and cheerleading camps for elementary and middle school students beginning in July. Early registration is encouraged.
Each camp will offer a weeklong session for students ages seven to nine and ten to twelve. Both camps will be held in Haws Gymnasium on the WKCTC campus.
The basketball camps will be held on July 7-10 (ages seven-nine) and July 14-17 (ages ten-twelve).
WKCTC basketball coach Daniel Potts will teach sound fundamentals to beginners as well as provide highly competitive skills and drills for more advanced players. Campers will learn drills they can perform at home during the off-season to help their game improve to the next level.
Registration for the basketball camps is $60 per week.
The cheerleading camps will be held on July 21-23 (ages seven-nine) and July 28-30 (ages ten-twelve).
WKCTC cheerleading coach Sarita Robinson will teach campers the fundamentals of cheerleading as well as basic dance and tumbling skills.
Early registration for the cheerleading camp is $35 before June 30, and includes a free cheer t-shirt. Late registration is $45.
“As our basketball and cheerleading programs continue to grow, we want to reach out and be more involved with the youth in our community,” said Robinson. “We want to teach them skills that our student athletes have learned in order to become college-level competitors.”
Coach Potts added, “offering these camps is a way to invite kids to the WKCTC campus and not only improve their athletic skills, but build relationships for the future.”
