Paducah School of Art and Design (PSAD) announces its presentation of Paducah School of Art and Design National Ceramics Invitational in the Clemens Gallery at Clemens Fine Arts Center with an opening reception on Thursday, January 23, between 5:30 and 7 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
The exhibition, which will remain on view through February 13, features a selection of works by leading clay artists employing a contemporary approach to the art of ceramics. The art on display includes a variety of hand-built and wheel-thrown works, reflecting a broad range of approaches to working with clay.
PSAD Ceramics Professor John Hasegawa curated the exhibition. Participating artists include: Pattie Chalmers, Southern Illinois University; John Hasegawa, Paducah School of Art and Design; Jason Hess, Northern Arizona University; Robert “Boomer” Moore, West Virginia University; John Neely, Utah State University; C.J. Niehaus, Paducah School of Art and Design; Tom O’Malley, Worcester State University; Lindsay Oesterritter, Western Kentucky University; and Carol Snyder, Columbus, OH.
PSAD Dean Paul Aho acknowledges the Ceramics Invitational role as a singular regional opportunity to see cutting edge work by the medium’s leading artists. “John brings a trained and fresh eye to curating each year’s exhibition, eliciting a sense of awe and wonder among viewers,” said Aho. “Showcasing a variety of work in the field at the highest level of technical achievement and aesthetic merit, like all of PSAD invitational exhibitions, the show also serves to open the eyes of students to paths they might otherwise not see.”
Clemens Gallery is located in the Clemens Fine Arts Center on the campus of West Kentucky Community and Technical College at 4810 Alben Barkley Drive in Paducah. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Closed Fridays.
The Paducah School of Art and Design, a division of West Kentucky Community and Technical College, offers an Associate in Fine Arts degree, as well as studio art classes for students of all levels and disciplines. Classes are offered on WKCTC’s campus, 409 Broadway in downtown Paducah and at Madison Hall in Lowertown.
