The next step for many students at West Kentucky Community and Technical College is to continue their education by transferring to a four-year university. WKCTC wants to help make that transition easier with various events that discuss transfer opportunities, scholarships and available resources during the college’s Let’s Talk Transfer Week.
“During September 16-20, we have events planned that will help students learn about how to build on the education they receive at WKCTC by transferring their degree to a 4-year school in the most seamless and stress-free way possible,” said Rachel Goatley, WKCTC coordinator of transfer advising.
WKCTC graduate Amber’Lee Douglas received a full tuition scholarship from Phi Theta Kappa, in addition to the Kentucky Tradition Scholarship to transfer to the University of Kentucky (UK). Douglas said WKCTC was instrumental in her successful transition.
“When I decided to go to college I didn't think I could pass the coursework, but I enrolled at West Kentucky Community and Technical College and my life changed for the better,” Douglas said. “The help and support of the faculty and staff boosted my confidence so greatly that I excelled instead of barely getting by. This is my dream made into reality and I couldn't have done it without going to WKCTC.”
Let’s Talk Transfer Week kicks off with the CollegeFish.org launch on September 17 and 18. CollegeFish is an online tool for community college students to help them make the transfer process as informed and seamless as possible, from researching schools based on certain criteria to earning scholarships and many other transfer topics.
